Motorbike Rental Prices in Vietnam: What to Expect in 2026
A detailed breakdown of motorbike rental costs across Vietnam in 2026 — daily, weekly, and monthly rates by bike type and city, plus tips on getting the best deal.

The bottom line
Renting a motorbike in Vietnam is cheap compared to almost anywhere else in the world. You can get a decent scooter for as little as 150,000 VND per day (about $6 USD) or 1,500,000 VND per month (about $60 USD). Adventure bikes for touring cost more but are still a fraction of what you'd pay in Thailand, Bali, or Europe.
That said, prices vary significantly based on three factors: what you ride, where you rent, and how long you keep it.
Price breakdown by bike type
Scooters (100–125cc)
The most popular rental category. Honda Vision, Honda Lead, Yamaha Janus, and Honda SH are the go-to choices for city riding.
| Duration | Budget range | Mid-range | Premium (SH, newer models) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daily | 120,000–150,000 VND | 150,000–200,000 VND | 250,000–350,000 VND |
| Weekly | 500,000–700,000 VND | 700,000–1,000,000 VND | 1,200,000–1,800,000 VND |
| Monthly | 1,200,000–1,800,000 VND | 1,800,000–2,500,000 VND | 3,000,000–4,500,000 VND |
Budget picks are usually older models (2019–2021) that run fine but show cosmetic wear. Mid-range gets you a well-maintained 2022–2024 model. Premium is a newer or higher-end model like the Honda SH 125i.
Semi-automatics (110–150cc)
Honda Wave, Honda Blade, and Honda Future. Popular with budget travellers doing longer trips.
| Duration | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Daily | 120,000–180,000 VND |
| Weekly | 600,000–900,000 VND |
| Monthly | 1,200,000–2,000,000 VND |
Semi-autos are the cheapest category because they're less popular with tourists. But they're extremely fuel-efficient and reliable — many Vietnamese commuters ride them daily for years without issues.
Manual / adventure bikes (150–250cc)
Kawasaki Versys-X 300, Honda CB500X 2022, Honda Winner X, and Yamaha WR155. The choice for Ha Giang, the Hai Van Pass, and cross-country trips.
| Bike | Daily | Weekly |
|---|---|---|
| Honda Winner X / WR155 | 250,000–400,000 VND | 1,200,000–2,000,000 VND |
| Kawasaki Versys-X 300 | See fleet | — |
| Honda CB500X 2022 | See fleet | — |
The Versys-X 300 and CB500X are the go-to Ha Giang bikes — book ahead during peak season (October–December) as availability is limited.
Price differences by city
Where you rent matters. Here's how the major cities compare:
Ho Chi Minh City
The most competitive market in Vietnam. Dozens of rental shops means prices stay low and you have bargaining power. This is where you'll find the best monthly rates, especially for expats.
Hanoi
Slightly higher prices than HCMC, but still very affordable. Hanoi is the starting point for Ha Giang trips, so adventure bike rates spike during peak season.
Da Nang
Growing tourist market with decent rental options. Prices are comparable to HCMC for scooters but slightly higher for adventure bikes. Many travellers rent here for the Hai Van Pass and Hoi An day trips.
Nha Trang
Smaller market, fewer shops, slightly higher prices. Limited selection of adventure bikes.
Ha Giang
The most expensive place to rent in Vietnam, relative to what you get. A Versys-X 300 or CB500X can be harder to find locally during peak season. If you're planning a Ha Giang loop, consider renting from Hanoi and riding up, or arranging transport of your rental from HCMC.
Phong Nha
Very limited options. Consider renting from a larger city and riding in.
What's included in the rental price?
This varies by shop, but here's what to look for:
Usually included
- The bike itself (obviously)
- One helmet (sometimes two)
- Basic tool kit
- Phone holder (at better shops)
Sometimes included
- Delivery to your hotel/apartment
- Pickup at a different location
- Rain poncho
- Lock and chain
- Breakdown assistance
Usually extra
- Premium helmet (full-face instead of half-face)
- Second helmet
- Luggage rack or panniers
- GPS device
- One-way fees (rent in HCMC, drop off in Da Nang)
- Insurance top-up
Always ask what's included before you agree on a price. A "cheaper" rate that doesn't include delivery, helmet, or breakdown support may end up costing more.
How to get the best deal
1. Rent monthly
The biggest discount in motorbike rental is duration. A bike that costs 200,000 VND/day is often 2,000,000 VND/month — that's a 67% discount. Even if you only need it for 3 weeks, the monthly rate is almost always cheaper than 21 daily rates.
2. Negotiate
Prices are rarely fixed, especially for longer rentals. Ask "What's your best price for one month?" rather than accepting the first number.
3. Avoid tourist hotspots
Rental shops next to backpacker streets (Bui Vien in HCMC, Old Quarter in Hanoi) tend to charge more. Walk a few blocks into a local neighborhood and you'll find better rates.
4. Book directly
Booking through your hotel or a booking platform means someone is taking a commission. Contact rental shops directly for the best price.
5. Rent during off-peak season
January to March is the quietest period for tourism in the south. You'll have more negotiating power and better bike selection.
6. Consider the total cost
A slightly more expensive shop that includes delivery, quality helmets, and 24/7 breakdown support may save you money and hassle compared to a cheaper shop that charges for everything separately.
Hidden costs to watch for
Fuel
Not a hidden cost per se, but worth budgeting. A scooter uses about 2–2.5 liters per 100 km. At current fuel prices (~25,000 VND/liter), that's roughly 50,000–60,000 VND per 100 km. Most shops ask you to return the bike with the same fuel level you received it.
Deposits
Expect to pay a deposit of 1,000,000–5,000,000 VND (or leave a passport — but we strongly advise against that). Deposits are refunded when you return the bike in good condition.
Damage
Minor scratches are usually forgiven (bikes in Vietnam accumulate them naturally). But significant damage — cracked fairings, bent rims, damaged lights — will be deducted from your deposit. Take photos of the bike before you ride off.
Fines
If you get a traffic fine, it's your responsibility. See our license guide for current fine levels.

Frequently asked questions
What currency should I pay in? Vietnamese Dong (VND). Some shops accept USD, but the exchange rate won't be in your favor. Use an ATM to withdraw VND.
Do I need to pay upfront? Most shops ask for payment at pickup. Monthly rentals are typically paid month-by-month, not all upfront.
Can I extend my rental? Yes — just let the shop know before your rental period ends. Rates stay the same or may improve if you're extending to a longer tier.
Is there a minimum rental period? Most shops have a 1-day minimum. Some adventure bikes have a 3-day minimum during peak season.
Do prices include insurance? Basic third-party liability insurance (BHTN) is included with all legally registered bikes. Comprehensive coverage is rarely offered by rental shops — check your travel insurance instead.
